Chief financial officer Darm Nana said yesterday that satellite-TV business was a key driver boosting the company’s earnings.
Revenue from media business, including radio station and satellite-TV channels, enjoyed a 19.9-per-cent surge from the same period last year.
Darm said revenue from satellite-TV business had risen 95.9 per cent in the quarter as a result of an increase in advertising income from Channel 8, Sabaidee TV, YOU Channel and YAAK TV.
In the third quarter, the company also began to recognise revenue from a number of sources: management of Spain’s La Liga soccer broadcasting rights on various channels; La Liga broadcasts on mobile phones in the DTAC network; advertising; and sales of Sunbox set-top boxes.
Additionally, radio business run by its subsidiary Sky-High Network saw revenue growth of 36 per cent from the same period last year as a result of an advertising-price adjustment on the Cool 93 Fahrenheit station, as well as a growing number of events for audiences and clients, including “Cool Outing 7”, the second year of “Ink Eat All Around” and “Cool Music Alive”.
“These help keep Cool 93 Fahrenheit as one of the most popular radio stations in Thailand, which has been ranked No 1 in the easy-listening music station group for many years,” Darm said.
The station also expanded its audience base to smart-phone users with the launch of App Cool.
Cool 93 Fahrenheit recently celebrated a million downloads of the application.
Meanwhile, RS’s revenue from showbiz concerts and marketing events increased by 13.3 per cent year on year.
Events held during the quarter included “James in Concert”, “K-OTIC The Memory Concert”, “Lift & Oil Happy Party Concert” and “AIS Fun Fair”.
On Tuesday, the RS board appointed chief executive officer Surachai Chetchotisak as its new chairman with immediate effect. He replaces Kriengkai Chetchotisak, who resigned.
