October vehicle sale up 233.2%

Vehicle sales in October rose sharply by 233.2 per cent to 142,839 units from the same period last year, when several auto plants were hurt by the flood disaster.

According to data compiled by Toyota Motor Thailand, passenger cars accounted for 72,211 units, up 263.7 per cent; while commercial vehicles which include 1-tonne pickups stood at 70,628 units or up 206.8 per cent.
In the first 10 months, accumulated vehicle sale topped 1.14 million units, up 60.2 per cent on year. Passenger car segment showed the 62.6 per cent growth rate, while commercial segment grew 58.2 per cent.
"Toyota expected continued growth in November sale, due to huge backlog and the launch of new models. Auto makers have also raised the capacity," said Toyota Senior Vice President Vudhigorn Suriyachantananont.
