Seven German firms were interested in hiring Thai software developers to produce retail solutions and factory production control systems for alternative (biomass/biogas) energy power generating plants in Germany, Chanin Khaojan, director of the BoI’s office in Frankfurt, said yesterday.
Both Thailand and Germany stand to gain from the establishment of such alliances. Thai developers can expand in the German software market, while German firms can tap into the vast Asean market via their Thai connections.
German companies offer highly developed expertise in automation and industrial machinery, which would improve Thai industrial productivity.
The target markets for Thai software developers are the service and mobile phone industries. The four Thai firms that participated in Thailand Business Day were Soft Square Group of Companies; Bery l8 Plus, a leading consulting company in organisational management software; Tropical Tech, a major software developer in infrastructure and factory automation, software engineering, design, development, interfacing and software testing; and Ecartstudio Co, a specialist in location-based information systems.
BOI’s statistics for investment in software development in Thailand from 1996-2012 showed 1,080 promoted projects worth Bt12.30 billion, of which 666 projects worth Bt7.19 billion were Thai-owned and 414 projects worth Bt5.11 billion were involved with foreign investors.
Japan leads the list of foreign investors in software development projects, followed by the US, UK, Singapore and Germany.
