D-MICE meet launched to spur industry

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau yesterday launched the "D-MICE: Meeting in Thailand" campaign to create awareness on a national level and attract the social sector to organise meetings and exhibitions within the country.

“The launch of ‘D-MICE: Meeting in Thailand’ is considered one of TCEB’s domestic MICE industry advancement schemes.
As the generator and liaison partner, particularly for government support, TCEB’s endeavours prove the importance of the MICE business as a mechanism for the improvement and generation of revenue for the nation, which can bring sustainability to the Thai economy,” president Nopparat Maythaveekulchai said.
The domestic MICE industry is expected to expand by 15 per cent to about 4 million MICE travellers this year and contribute Bt13.7 billion to the economy, he said.
The new campaign was designed to further the achievements of the previous campaign that kicked off in June 2009 to tackle the economic slowdown.
The domestic MICE market is considered as one of the country’s economic growth drivers. It accounts for one-fifth of the Bt12.5 billion MICE market.
The local business for meetings, seminars, incentives and exhibitions is crucial as it not only generates huge revenue for the economy but also acts as a mechanism propelling employment, generating revenue and accelerating local economies across the country.
Statistics for last year showed 3.82 million domestic MICE travellers generating revenue of Bt12.46 billion.
“In order to work harmoniously with government policy, TCEB has positioned its role as a generator of domestic MICE business in an integrated manner,” he added.
