SET prepared for the worst

Stock Exchange of Thailand President Charamporn Jotikasthira said on Tuesday that the bourse is prepared for the worst-case scenario, if the political rally unexpectedly turns violent.

He noted that without any violence, the bourse would be intact from the heating political climate. Thai investors have been familiar with the condition, given frequent rallies, he said.
On the thin turnover as a result of the protest, he said investors should maintain the wait-and-see attitude for some time.
The exchange recently revised upward the average daily turnover for 2013 to Bt49.5 billion.
It plans to host the annual conference "Thailand Focus" during August 28-30, designed to promote the Thai bourse as a regional exchange linkage. About 150 institutional investors are committed to join the event. Representatives of bourses in the Mekong region will join the conference, while 121 companies will present their success stories.
