The company’s head of mobile communication, Anuphun Bhakdisuparit, on board since August 8, said LG’s smart-phone distribution channels and marketing had been too weak. The firm wants to see significant sales of its smart phones and from now on will be more aggressive on marketing.
He said market research had shown that availability of LG phones in Thailand had fallen short, and the company would work this year on rectifying that nationwide.
The strategy is to focus on the network of retail outlets and to work more closely with operators to get LG smart phones into the hands of consumers effectively.
In the past few years, LG has been not active with marketing campaigns.
Now, the company will not spend money for mass marketing but will focus on niche campaigns to appeal to digital-lifestyle consumers as the targeted users of LG smart phones. “LG G2 will be available in the Thai market by the last week of September, and the first 10,000 units of pre-orders have sold out. The price is below Bt20,000,” he said.
Anuphun added that the smart-phone market in Thailand had very high potential because third-generation service was now widely available on the 2.1-gigahertz spectrum.
“There is huge room in the smart-phone market in Thailand. Apart from LG G2, there will be at least two models of LG smart phone launched here,” he said.
