Rende inks deal with Rosewood for luxury Bangkok hotel
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has signed on to manage an ultra-luxury hotel in Bangkok owned by Pintongta Shinawatra Kunakornwong.
Owned by hospitality investment company Rende, the new 33-storey hotel on Ploenchit Road will feature 146 rooms. It is scheduled for opening in 2017.
Pintongta, daughter of Thaksin Shinawatra and chief executive officer of Rende, said Rosewood Bangkok would become one of the top luxury-hotel choices for international travellers to the city.
“Rosewood and Rende have a comparable phi?losophy when it comes to providing the best service available in the market, as well as the same vision in design, which has made this partnership naturally easy. We also share the ultimate goal of wanting to create one of the best hotels in Bangkok,” she said.
Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group, said: “As one of the world’s most popular tourist desti?nations, Bangkok is a key strategic location for Rosewood to strengthen its foothold in Asia. We are delighted to partner with Rende and add Rosewood Bangkok to our acclaimed collection.”
The signing marks Rosewood’s ninth management agree?ment to be announced globally, and the fourth this year in the Asia-Pacific region.
New York-based architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, a consultant to the local design firm Tandem Architects, will reference cultural touchstones to create a hotel that reflects Thailand's rich heritage and customs. Rosewood Bangkok will be the firm’s first project in Thailand.
Two connecting high-rise structures will create a dynamic form inspired by the graceful hand movement of the wai – the simple but beautifully elegant Thai gesture of greeting and welcome, which ideally con?veys Thai tradition and culture.
In keeping with the tropical environment, an atrium com?plete with a lush, vertical garden will separate the two struc?tures.
