A growing trend among local telecom operators is to work together with leading overseas businesses partners to increase their competitive advantages. Participation in international conferences is therefore essential to the development and advancement of technology and the telecommunications business.
"This is the second year that the Capacity Asia conference has been held in Thailand and we are still the main sponsor, since the event is critical to driving the telecommunications business in Thailand and the region," said Dr. Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, executive vice president for Product Development Group.
He foresaw that the Asean Economic Community (AEC) would spark growth in telecom connectivity in line with the growth in the business sector.
Data from IDC Research indicates that in the year 2013 business in the Thai telecommunications market expanded by 9.8 percent to reach a value of Bt21 billion, reflecting the large size of the sector that is highly competitive. The market still requires continued investment in spite of the fact that profit margins are declining. This situation fails to attract new entrants to invest, so the market remains dominated by the existing operators which have lengthy experience and the potential to invest in continuous network expansion.
AEC is expected to generate significant impacts at both the regional and international levels and it was the theme of the conference, taking place during October 29-31. The event was the result of the cooperative action of international telecommunications businesses with an aim to facilitate the exchange of know-how and experience in the field of telecommunications in terms of technology and business practices to support the expansion of the market within the region.
"It gave telecom operators the chance to mix with others in the field, enter into business negotiations as partners and groups, forming business models that enhance business value. Besides, discussions on new technologies will help in raising the standard of service to international levels. These are two key factors in the development of CAT’s business, especially as we are a major telecommunications provider with the greatest experience in this market. We must continue to develop our business and provide services to ensure that our service users have the opportunity to network with maximum efficiency, and reasonable and fair prices," Dhanant said.
The latest research from Gartner indicates that in 2013, business units around the world have increased their IT spending by more than 4.1 per cent with a market capitalisation of approximately Bt3.7 trillion and will experience average growth of over 3.9 per cent per year. The hardware, software, networking and managed service sectors will provide the impetus behind most of the growth through the development of IT infrastructure.
IT is considered a key to creating competitive advantage and helping businesses achieve success according to their stated goals. It can not only improve management efficiency and access to information but also allow developers to formulate business plans effectively as well as reduce costs and increase the overall profitability of the organisation.
