TCC boycotts civil disobedience

The Thai Chamber of Commerce Tuesday stated that the business sector would not join Suthep Thaugsuban's call for "civil disobedience".

The chamber said that it is illegal not to pay taxes. Meanwhile, worker strikes would exacerbate the economic condition.
The chamber urgently called for a press conference today, to express its concerns on the impacts of the political situation on the economy.
"Regarding protests against the amnesty bill in many sites, TCC and Board of Trade are worried about the situation which could be prolonged and affect the economy and confidence in investment and tourism, particularly when the tourism high season is here. This would be the key engines to drive the economy, which is slowing down. Our exports in the first three quarters rose only 0.05 per cent while the annualised export growth would be only 1 per cent. All parties should thus take into account economic impacts," it said in a statement.
Showing supports to anti-corruption efforts, the chamber perceived that the campaign against the amnesty bill has achieved a success.
All parties should thus avoid confrontation and violence, which could affect the economy, trade, investment, confidence and the country's image. The impacts would be long lasting and difficult to be healed.
All parties are also urged to honour the national interests. All activities must be carefully carried out, to restore peace and harmony as soon as possible.
