RSTA, which is a grouping of business operators, said in a statement that the protests in the area should not be prolonged that they can cause economic damage. "The area is a major economic and shopping centre. Keeping the country's good image is the duty of all Thais, to maintain confidence among foreign investors, business persons and tourists who view Thailand one of the most attractive investment destinations."
RSTA estimated that shopping centres and other businesses in the area serve about 250,000 local and foreign people.
In the statement, it said peaceful protests are welcomed. While the action plans implemented during the New Year countdown should be exercised, it suggests the protest site be clearly specified for a safety reason. It also urged protesters to free road space. Mobile toilets should be provided.
