PTT has contracted to take a minimum of 200 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from Yetagun for at least 10 years.
The heating value of Yetagun gas is higher than supplies from Yadana, so it has to mix Yadana gas with gas from the Yetagun and also Zawtika fields to produce a fuel with the desired heating value to feed Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding’s power plants in western Thailand.
If Yetagun completely runs out of natural gas before the contract ends, PTT will need to raise the proportion of Zawtika gas.
PTT has piped in 240 million cubic feet of gas daily from Zawtika since last year.
The source said the ministry would meet with PTT’s technical team and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to find out exactly how much gas comes from Yetagun and how long the field can supply Thailand according to the purchase contracts.
If the gas supply from the field is found to be unable to meet the terms of the contracts, the power plants in western Thailand will be in trouble. PTT has engaged a company to evaluate the supply in all fields in Yetagun.
