CHINESE MEDIA UPDATED ON RAIL-ROUTE PROJECT

Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board, yesterday updated the Chinese media on the planned mutual cooperation between Thailand and China on the Nong Khai-Map Ta Phut dual-track electric-train rou

He said surveys and preliminary designs of the Nong Khai-Bangkok and Nong Khai-Map Ta Phut routes were expected to start at the end of this month. Then a feasibility study could proceed in order to get approval from the Cabinet for the next stage of the project.
“We also have to secure our funding from China, as we discussed with the Chinese team last week,” he said.
“We hope that once the survey, design and feasibility study are completed, we will be able to present the plan to the Cabinet by midyear, and construction can start as soon as possible after that. The earliest the construction can start is September, but we might have to wait until December, since we have to talk about the financing of the project.”

REGISTRATIONS UP 12%
The Ministry of Commerce’s Business Development Department reported that the number of newly registered companies increased strongly in January, by 12 per cent to 5,980 firms, compared with 5,317 in January 2014.
Most of the newly registered companies are in construction, property development, and accounting and auditing.
Department secretary-general Pongpun Gearaviriyapun said more construction-related firms had been established since the government planned to invest in infrastructure development and special economic zones.

PER-SECOND BILLING
True Corp and Advanced Info Service have introduced some airtime packages featuring per-second billing, National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said yesterday.
He added that the other state and private telecom operators had to offer similar per-second-billing packages by the March 1 deadline.
Total Access Communication (DTAC) said yesterday that it was ready to launch per-second-billing packages of its post-paid and prepaid call services and would announce them by March 1.
The NBTC and five telecom operators agreed late last month that all their airtime call packages launched between February 16 and March 1, depending on their readiness, would bill on a per-second basis.
