Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction has asked for a 380-day extension in the construction contract for the new Parliament complex, a parliamentary official said.
Khunnawut Tantrakul said yesterday that the request was being considered, but it is still not known when a decision will be made. He added that the extension would not lead to a change in the budget.
Sino-Thai is bound by the contract to complete the construction by November 24.
Project manager Supachoke Orathai said the construction was delayed because the company was given access to the site later than scheduled. Also, 20 rai (3.2 hectares) of land has not yet been cleared.
Supachoke said work on the foundation should be done by November, while the construction of buildings may start in mid-2016. He added that construction could be completed quickly as the company was ready to move some 5,000 to 6,000 workers to the site.
