Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya will visit Pakistan August 12-13 to negotiate a free trade agreement.
The Cabinet has resolved for Thailand to start opening a dialogue on the FTA with Pakistan for completion by the middle of 2017.
Both countries have set a target to expand their trade to US$2 billion by 2018, doubling the $1.02 billion reached last year.
According to the Commerce Ministry, Pakistan is a major market with 200 million people and due to its strategic location, can serve as a distribution hub for Thai goods to other regions.
Deputy Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn will join a high-level economic dialogue meeting with her French counterpart in Paris this October, after an eight-year hiatus. She will also use the opportunity to take a business delegation to seek opportunities for expanding trade and investment between the two countries.
