The agency conducted the Thailand Internet User Profile 2015 survey from March-June with 10,434 Internet users, of whom 55.8 per cent were women, 42.4 per cent men and 1.8 per cent the third gender.
Surangkana Wayuparb, president of the agency, said yesterday that the Internet users were divided into four generations – Z aged under 15, representing 2.9 per cent of respondents; Y aged 15-34 at 64.6 per cent; X aged 35-50 at 26.2 per cent and baby boomers aged 51- 69 at 6.5 per cent.
Generations X, Y and Z mainly use smartphones to connect to the Net.
Internet users are mostly checking social media sites such as Facebook and Line, followed by seeking information and reading e-magazines and e-news.
Their main problems are delays in connecting to the Net, the annoyance of online advertising, difficulty in connecting to the Net and dropped connections.
Baby boomers tend to depend on desktop PCs to access the Internet. They purchase package tours via the online channel. They like Line to communicate with their friends and family.
However, this generation is taking privacy risks by providing personal information on the Net, since they are not aware of the danger of giving out credit card, ID and other information.
For generation X, men will most likely purchase IT products and woman fashion products.
The last three generations will mainly spend their time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Line to communicate, access information and connect with their friends and family.
About 30 per cent Internet users do not purchase products and goods via the Net because they know the vulnerability of e-commerce transactions. Others are concerned that they cannot touch the product first and fear that they will not get the same product that they ordered.
The influences that will drive users to purchase products online are product reviews, which provide much more information to support users, then online advertising and viral marketing.
