GHB's new lending up 5.2% in first half

Government Housing Bank reported that it had extended nearly Bt68.99 billion in new loans during the first half of this year, an increase of 5.2 per cent when compared with the same period last year. The bank's total outstanding loans currently stand at

GHB is confident that it can meet this year’s new-loan target of Bt149.8 billion as it strives to achieve lending growth in the second half.
GHB president Angkana Chaimanat said the bank extended Bt68.99 billion in 56,181 new loans in the first half, an increase of 5.2 per cent over the first six months of last year despite the sluggish economy. This shows that the bank can still help low-to-middle-income clients own homes through its affordable products. GHB’s first-half operating results showed total outstanding loans of Bt821.67 billion, up 3.44 per cent from the end of 2014. Total assets stood at Bt857.67 billion, up 3.96 per cent, while total deposits amounted to Bt683.73 billion, up 4.81 per cent.
Non-performing loans stood at Bt45.66 billion, or 5.56 per cent of total loans, an increase of 0.20 percentage point from 5.36 per cent as of the end of 2014.
The BIS ratio of 16.9 per cent reflects the bank’s solid financial position, it said, as it is higher than the 8.5-per-cent minimum reserve requirement of the Bank of Thailand.
The rise in new loans also reflected the demand for housing and the confidence in GHB’s products and attractive interest rates, it said.
