NBTC queries 168 Communication about customer complaints

THE National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission has asked mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) 168 Communication to respond to complaints about problems with its service, Korkij Danchaivichit, deputy secretary-general of the NBTC, said yeste

The NBTC says it has received a lot of complaints from the company’scustomers, including that they could not transfer their mobile-phone numbers to other networks, he said.
The commission will give the company time to respond to the complaints.
The company’s chief executive officer Natee Panichchewa could not be reached for comment yesterday.
The company was formerly known as 365 Communication, which earlier provided a third-generation cellular service under a partnership with TOT. It re-launched its service in April this year by leasing airtime from CAT Telecom to provide a 3G service.
It claimed it had invested Bt3 billion to develop the cellular service under the CAT partnership and targeted 1 million users within one year. Currently it has fewer than 10,000 users.
In a separate matter, CAT acting president Colonel Sanpachai Huvanan dana said 168 Communication had offered to negotiate with CAT on payment to the state agency of overdue transmission-network rental fees |of around Bt100 million.
Currently there are around 20 MVNOs under the NBTC licensing regime but only six are active, namely Real Move, M Consultant, I Mobile, Loxley, IEC and 168 Communication. There are six newcomers including Data Communication, Tesco, Mobile LTE, and the two latest are Tune Talk and White Space.
The NBTC is trying to promote the MVNO business and has hired UK-based InterConnect Communications to study its plan.
An MVNO is a wireless-communications service provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure.
