Exhibition features hand-woven fabrics

AS PART the celebrations of Queen Sirikit’s upcoming 84th birthday and to promote local hand-woven fabrics, the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand has launched an exhibition called “Thai Hand Woven Fabrics: Response to the Queen’s In

WAfter the event opened yesterday, Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said Thai hand-woven fabrics had strong potential to penetrate the world market because of their high quality and unique characteristics.
The government will continue to promote this product through many markets not only to increase export value, but also to promote the development of local communities and increase incomes for local people, she said.
To introduce the product to international markets, the Commerce Ministry will invite ambassadors from 26 countries to visit seven parts of the Kingdom that specialise in hand-woven fabrics.
The first area will be the lower Northeast: Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, Mukdahan and Udon Thani provinces.
The other areas will be the upper Northeast, in Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Sakhon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom; the upper North, in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lampang; the lower North, in Sukhothai, Uttaradit and Nan; the upper South, in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi and Trang; the lower South, in Songkhla, Pattani and Narathiwat; and the Central region, in Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Phetchaburi.
