SET roadshows this month
The Stock Exchange of Thailand will join with two securities firms to take roadshows to Singapore and the United States this month with 21 Thai listed firms to present to global institutional investors the firms’ strengths and the Thai capital market’s growth potential.
The SET and DBS Vickers Securities (Thailand) Co are holding “Thailand Corporate Access Day” in Singapore today with 11 medium-sized companies including the infrastructure fund, with total market capitalisation as of July 8 of Bt570 billion, to present Thailand’s economic information directly to investors.
The roadshow will focus on Thailand’s industries that are key economic drivers with strong growth potential.
From July 18-21, the SET and Maybank Kim Eng Securities (Thailand) will arrange “SET US Roadshow: Thailand Conference” in New York, Boston and San Francisco with 11 mid-sized to large listed firms with strong potential for continued growth, including those on the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices and the Thailand Sustainability Investment list.
THSI is a list of companies with outstanding performance on environmental, social and governance aspects with market capitalisation of Bt1.5 trillion. This has reinforced the SET’s strategic plan to enhance the quality of listed companies, a key factor to boost investors’ long-term confidence, it says.
The SET will next cooperate with Capital Nomura Securities to hold a roadshow in Japan again in October.

Diesel price to drop by 40 satang
The price of diesel fuel is set to fall by Bt0.40 a litre after the reduction of biodiesel content from 7 per cent to 5 per cent effective on July 25.
Witoon Kulchroenwirat, director-general of the Energy Business Department, said yesterday that the cost of diesel would be lowered after the shift from the B7 to the B5 standard, since the cost of 100-per-cent biodiesel or B100 is Bt39.77 a litre, compared with Bt15 for straight diesel.
The Commerce Ministry had requested the relaxation of biodiesel content, citing the fall in the domestic crude-palm-oil inventory to below the threshold of 200,000 tonnes, fearing a shortage of raw materials for cooking-oil production.

Gems, jewellery fair planned
The 58th “Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair” is expected to draw more than 30,000 visitors and generate more than Bt5 billion in immediate sales thanks to the overwhelming interest in joining the event.
Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat, deputy director-general of the International Trade Promotion Department, said yesterday that many international traders and visitors were keen on participating in the event, emphasising Thailand as the centre of gem and jewellery trading in the Asean region and elsewhere in Asia.
The fair, which will run from September 7-11 at Impact Muang Thong Thani, is expected to draw attendees from the US, Brazil, Australia, Japan, India, the Middle East, the European Union, mainland China, Hong Kong and Asean.
About 600 exhibitors with 1,900 booths will join the fair.
The department estimates exports of gem and jewellery to grow by 10 per cent to US$7.9 billion (Bt277 billion) this year.
