SOMKID WANTS MRT EXTENSION|TO THON BURI EXPEDITED

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has urged Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM) to accelerate construction of the MRT Blue Line extension, which will connect to Thon Buri district on expectation for 800,000 passengers when the whole route is in service.
The Blue Line extension from Hua Lamphong to Bang Khae is currently scheduled to go into operation in September 2019, while the Bang Sue-Tha Phra route begins service around March 2020.
Somkid said he had asked BEM to expedite construction its MRT operations before the schedules for people.
The Blue Line is the core of the MRT system, as it connects Bangkok and its outlying areas, and linking the city’s Phra Nakhon and Thon Buri districts is expected to help develop urban areas and economy, as well as upgrading people’s quality of life.
Somkid yesterday chaired a signing ceremony for an MRT Blue Line concession between the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and BEM.
