FamilyMart, DTAC woo Chinese with Alipay link

FamilyMart has linked with Total Access Communication (DTAC), the parent company of Paysbuy, to offer an online payment service that lets Chinese tourists pay in yuan at outlets of the convenience store chain.

DTAC said Paysbuy, with more than 15,000 online merchants, would be would be a good fit for Chinese tourists wanting to use Alipay’ s payment service, which would also “help boost Thailand’s economy”.
The service allows Chinese visitors to pay in yuan, with no fee and no minimum payment amount, at 288 FamilyMart stores in Bangkok, Pattaya, Ko Samui, and Hua Hin, and at all stores nationwide by October.
“We are confident that this partnership will help boost our sales and the tourism climate here,” Panthep said.

Bangkok motor show orders near 10,000

Almost 10,000 orders have been placed for new vehicles at the halfway mark of the annual Bangkok International Motor Show.
The event, organised by Grand Prix International, opened in the Challenger Hall at Impact Muang Thong Thani on March 29.
Jaturont Komolmis, vice chairman of the organising committee, said the show has gained wide interest mainly due to the large number of new models being introduced. More than 20 car models and 20 motorcycle models have been launched at the show. “The small passenger car segment enjoyed strong interest from young buyers and the commercial vehicle segment was also popular, due to a better economy and growth in the agricultural sector,” he said.
“Recreational vehicles such as SUVs (sport utility vehicles) and PPVs (pick-up passenger vehicles) are also gaining more popularity.”
From the opening day of the show until Sunday, 9,294 orders were placed. The figure does not include European brands and motorcycles, which will submit sales figures after the show ends on April 9.
Last year, 32,000 orders were placed during the show.
