P&G marks achievements in ‘sustainable development’

P&G marks achievements in ‘sustainable development’

P&G PLANT Thailand has achieved the 2020 goals of the sustainable development plan for the environment as it could reduce water usage, waste and energy consumption, which can affect the climate.

It also organised the week of “You Can Make a World of Difference”, when its staff participated in environmental conservation on the occasion of Earth Day today, an annual event designated by the United Nations.
Procter & Gamble (Thailand) Co will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year with the concept of “We Grow Together”.
The company said it has delivered quality products and taken a part in improving Thais’ quality of life together with the country’s economic growth and the reduction in environmental impact.
P&G Thailand’s manufacturing base has the largest production capacity in Asia and the third largest of P&G worldwide.
It distributes beauty care products in Thailand and exports brands with the “Made in Thailand” label including Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Rejoice, Clairol Herbal Essence, Vidal Sassoon and Olay.
Its ships products worth hundreds of millions of US dollars to each country in Asia-Pacific and many countries in other regions.
Jutapat Boonvongsakorn, managing director of Procter & Gamble Manufacturing (Thailand) Co, said the company’s strategy is to drive the growth of P&G Plant to become the regional manufacturing centre in Asia-Pacific.
“We have focused on innovation development with world-class quality standards to respond to consumers’ new demands with a high level of satisfaction, together with the development of human resources, which vary by race, region, gender and thought. “All of these are combined equally as P&G’s strength for the organisation’s progress. P&G also cooperates with agencies to achieve the sustainable development goals for the environment in the long run.”
P&G is determined to recycle 100 per cent of energy, use renewable resources for 100 per cent of production and packaging, and produce zero waste.
To achieve its long-term vision, it has set 2020 goals to reduce energy and water consumption and reduce waste by 20 per cent.
Kitirote Thammarate, manager of Bangkok plant engineering at P&G Manufacturing (Thailand), said that since 2009, P&G Plant has invested to improve and increase the efficiency of machines in the manufacturing process, which could help reduce energy usage by more than 37 per cent, equal to the energy for 960,000 households per year.
It can reduce water consumption in the manufacturing process by over 36 per cent, equal to the water in 360 Olympic-sized swimming pools per year. It can also reduce waste by up to 31 per cent. “Over 150 tonnes of this waste are processed with the 3Rs – reduce, reuse and recycle. For example, a playground recycled from shampoo bottles.”
In the near future, P&G Plant will apply biomass technology, an innovation that generates energy from domestic agricultural products like rice husks, bagasse, palm meal, cassava waste, coconut shells and meal as renewable energy. This can increase manufacturing efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the plant.
Kannika Jarusuraisin, external relations director for P&G Trading (Thailand), said P&G’s mission is to achieve the sustainable development goals for environment.
“We do not only dedicate ourselves to research and development of environment-friendly products and manufacturing processes but P&G worldwide including Thailand also organises the Earth Week Campaign under the theme, ‘You Can Make a World of Difference’, to make awareness of and take part in environmental conservation among our staff, not only on Earth Day, but also everyday, and extend it to family members, friends and others nearby.”
