Thailand will host the World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit tomorrow and on Thursday, where the government is confident of showcasing the country’s potential in the tourism industry.
Pongpanu Svetarundra, permanent secretary of the Tourism and Sports Ministry, said it was hosting the two-day summit from tomorrow to Thursday. Tourism-industry leaders and executives from around the world will come to exchange their experiences. He said the summit would provide a good opportunity to attract investment, especially in infrastructure, to accommodate increases in tourism activities and Eastern Economic Corridor projects, as well as declaring Thailand as a tourism hub of the region and a unique tourist destination.
The ministry plans to hold a food festival featuring dishes from all over the country and might invite Michelin Guide to evaluate restaurants in Thailand.
Pongpanu said Thailand had been taking strict measures against tourism scams and illegal tour businesses that might adversely affect the number of visitors, while seeking to encourage “quality” tourists.
The ministry says it wants to contain violations of the laws.
