Delta hikes orders for US-built Airbus

United States-based Delta Air Lines has ordered 30 more A321 aircraft from French firm Airbus after
Previously placing orders for three of the “current engine option” version of the largest Airbus A320.
The airline took delivery of its first A321 in March last year and in all has ordered 112 og the passenger jets powered by CFM International’s CFM56 engines.
“The A321’s comfort, performance and economics make it a very compelling aircraft for our domestic-route network,” said Gil West, Delta’s senior executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Airbus chief operating officer John Leahy said Delta’s “vote of confidence demonstrates the passenger, operator and investor appeal of this aircraft”.
“The A320 family truly delivers unsurpassed comfort, economy and reliability for airlines like Delta that pay attention to what their customers want.”
All of Delta’s A321s will feature fuel-saving Sharklets – lightweight wingtip devices that burn as much as 4 per cent less fuel. As well as the environmental benefit, it enables airlines to extend their range by up to 185 kilometres or increasing payload capacity by around 450 kilograms.
Many of Delta’s A321s are being delivered from the Airbus plant in Mobile, Alabama. By the end of this year the facility is expected to produce four aircraft per month, most going to its US customers.
As of the end of April, Delta was flying 187 Airbus aircraft, including 145 A320-family members and 42 A330 widebodies.
