Mazda Sales (Thailand) reported on Friday that sales in May reached almost 4,000 units, growing by 13 per cent compared to the same month last year.
It noted that sales of the Mazda2 rose by 32 per cent.
“The growth follows Mazda’s efforts in strengthening its sales and after-sales capability, resulting in greater customer confidence,” the firm said in a press release.
“Year-to-date sales from January-May reached 19,729 units, rising by 10 per cent compared the corresponding period last year, thanks to strong tourism and agriculture sectors.”
Mazda said it would initiate more marketing activities and had recently partnered with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Environment Office to sponsor Environment Day activities.
President Chanchai Trakarnudomsuk said that, even with May’s heavy monsoon rains, the economic picture has been promising.
“The agriculture sector is really active with ‘durian fever’, and rice, rubber and tapioca are also making strong comebacks,” he said. “All these positive factors result in higher purchasing power and that helps stimulate the automobile market.”
In May Mazda sold 3,964 units, an increase of 13 per cent compared to 3,522 vehicles sold during the same month last year.
The Mazda2 was the top-selling model, with 2,490 units (up 32 per cent), followed by the Mazda3 with 466 units (up 38), the CX-3 crossover with 351 units (down 17), the BT-50 PRO pickup with 349 units (down 32), the CX-5 crossover with 304 units (down 14) and the MX-5 roadster with 4 units.
During the first five months of the year, Mazda sold 19,729 units, up 10 per cent from the 17,869 units sold during the same period in 2016.
The Mazda2 was again the best-seller with 11,732 units (up 23 per cent), followed by the BT-50 PRO with 2,595 units (up 1 per cent), the Mazda3 with 2,269 units (up 21), the CX-3 with 1,748 units (down 30), the CX-5 with 1,376 units (up 2) and the MX-5 with 9 units.
