REPLACEMENTS AT NBTC
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) will call a meeting on Tuesday to elect a chairman to replace Thares Punsri, who retires on October 5 when he turns 70.
NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said after the NBTC’s meeting yesterday that the NBTC would continue to operate until the current commissioners are replaced by new ones. The six-year term of the commissioners will end on October 7.
The Secretariat of the Senate reportedly has appointed a committee to select seven new commissioners to oversee the telecom and broadcasting industries, in line with the new NBTC law.
The meeting yesterday also granted a network code to MCOT for use in testing its pay-TV service on condition that the code is used solely for that purpose.
MCOT will also have to use its spectrum for testing by itself. It cannot authorise other parties to utilise the spectrum on its behalf.
ONLINE VISA APPLICATIONS
The Board of Investment has partnered with the Immigration Bureau and the Employment Department to allow foreign investors in BoI-promoted businesses to apply online for their visa and work permit at the same time.
The single window for such services will be piloted next month in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket before going nationwide next year.
NAVY-PTT PACT FOR EEC
The Navy and PTT have agreed to cooperate on energy development and investment at U-Tapao airport in Rayong.
The agreement will support the development of the Special Eastern Economic Corridor: Eastern Aviation initiative under the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy.
The parties said the development of U-Tapao would enhance the competitiveness of Thailand, boost employment and income, accelerate economic growth and raise the quality of life.
3K ON THE MOVE
Thai Storage Battery Co Ltd , the manufacturer of 3K batteries, has announced its business plan with new technologies and a stronger distribution network. The announcement came after Hitachi Chemical of Japan had become the major shareholder of the company and its subsidiaries in a restructuring in July this year .
Toshinori Osumi, the company’s new CEO, says Thai Storage Battery will improve marketing, service , product research as well as distribution channels, in order to become the leader in the Asian battery market.
