Thai film industry seen benefiting from country hosting Asian documentary show

Sunny Side of the Doc, the European largest documentary programming marketplace, has selected Thailand to host the Asian Side of the Doc (ASD), which will welcome about 500 delegates including producers, directors, distributors, key decision makers, and investors as well as visitors from 40 countries.
The Asian Side of the Doc is scheduled to take place at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok from January 30 to February 2, 2018. The event is expected to generate miniฌmum revenue of Bt160 million.
Viwan Karnasut, managing director of Maximage Co and head of the ASD organising committee, said that it would be a crucial platform to create networking, collaboration, joint film productions and business matching. The project is supported by the International Trade Promotion Department and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).
In an effort to enhance the Thai film industry, in line with the Thailand 4.0 advanced technology vision, the Thailand Documentary Filmmakers Association (TDFA) has been established.
The association has a three-way mandate: to promote Thailand as a hub of international and regional documentary filmmakers, a marketplace and a venue to host the ASD annually.
Yupa (Petcharit) Rattanajan, manฌaging director of Payai Creation Co, said that a recent workshop with interฌnational instructors proved a great experience and opportunity to learn and share knowledge.
Payai Creation received the best pitch project award. The company has a chance to join the ASD for free and also to make a “pitch” on the main stage of the ASD 2018.
