The channel is expected to draw more than 700,000 viewers per minute on average. Advertising rates will increase by 40 per cent.
RS chief executive Surachai Chetchotisak said that, with Thai digital TV beginning its fourth year, all players are making adjustments. Media spending is on the rise and the industry is expected to grow.
Channel 8 is among the top five but still has room to grow, Surachai said. More viewers mean advertising rates can rise.
The Channel 8 strategy is referred to as “Prime Time Focus”, with investment in premium content from home and abroad being aired from 6-9am and 6-11.30pm. The goal is to increase viewership throughout the year, Surachai said.
RS has sold licences to some Channel 8 content to operators in Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam, where there is high potential for growth, he added.
