Govt to link data for digital economy
NEXT YEAR will be the year of data for the public sector amid expectations for the announcement of 300-500 national data sets for people and data analysis for businesses, who could use them for innovative creation in terms of the economy, society and living, the country’s deputy premier said.
Opening the event “Readiness for development towards Thailand 4.0”, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said that people could use these national data sets for their innovation, and the private sector could use them to analyse data including e-commerce and social media in the digital economy.
All data will be connected to help business extension, which could boost the economy, he said.
The government has established a sharing system for joint use of resources, while sharing and connecting data to save billions of baht in its annual budget, he said.
The government will not only shift its disclosure of existing data from the analog system to the digital system, but also establish a new culture of data disclosure to the general public, he said, adding such data included all work procedures of state agencies.
This is the most diverse ever for the Thai government, he said.
According to the Cabinet resolution on October 10, the Electronic Government Agency (EGA) would be moved to the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), which would directly report to the Office of Prime Minister in order to be more flexible in driving the digital government.
Next year, the agency’s new projects will cover Government Data Exchange, Government Data Centre, Government Data Analytics Centre and Government Secure Intranet with open data platform for linkages of large data base.
EGA chief Sak Segkhoonthod said the survey on Thailand’s readiness for development of the digital government in 2017 would be announced in the “Digital Government Summit 2017: Disclosure, Linkage and Transformation towards the Digital Government” at CentralWorld. The event began yesterday and concludes tomorrow.
Initially, based on the survey, Thailand’s state departmental level scored 57.2 with the highest in digital state staff’s digital capability, and the provincial level marked 36.9 with the highest in internal management in the form of electronics.
