BCPG keen on renewables retail market

BCPG Public Co Ltd, a SET100 company, has adopted an Internet of Energy strategy to facilitate its move into the retail market for renewable energy, company president and CEO Bundit Sapianchai said yesterday.

Bundit said the company has so far been involved in the wholesale market but now plans to shift to the retail market to tap the vast opportunity for clean energy, solar, wind and geothermal power in Asia.
“We want to be the first mover in clean energy and build our brand name,” said Bundit.
The company is in negotiations with many corporates, industrial estates and property developers for the installation of solar rooftops, he said.
Wholly owned by Bangchak Corporation, a leading local energy company, BCPG has already a secured contract with Sansiri PLC, a leading property developer, he said.
The company will install solar rooftops for a houses built by Sansiri. In the new era, homeowners would be able to sell electricity generated by a solar facility attached to their home, he said.
The company will develop an Internet of Energy platform by applying Blockchain technology, which will allow consumers to buy and sell electricity from their neighbours, Bundit said.

Solar plants
The company runs solar plants in Thailand and Japan, and this year it has invested in the wind power business in the Philippines and geothermal power in Indonesia. Its total renewable power is about 600 megawatts.
The growth target for the green energy business is about 20 per cent annually, said Bundit.
The company has also studied and developed smart homes, smart grids and smart cities, and demand side management in order to increase its business efficiency and expansion, said Bundit.
He assured that the cost of electricity generated by solar energy is competitive and cheaper than electricity generated by conventional power plants. He also expected a further fall in the price of battery that could store electricity for households or car owners and this would lead to more consumption of renewable energy.
Bundit was optimistic about the outlook since green energy has been promoted by the government and it was also in line with global trend.
The company reported a net profit of Bt514 million in the third quarter of this year, up 43 per cent year on year.
