Exporters encouraged to boost China sales

Exporters encouraged to boost China sales

The Commerce Ministry wants to see Thai exporters boost their sales to China when a free-trade agreement between Asean and China comes into effect on January 1, Auramon Supthaweethum deputy director-general of Trade Negotiations Department of Commerce Ministry, said yesterday.

The pact will reduce import taxes on a range of goods between Asean and China to between zero and 5 per cent.
She said the value of trade between Thailand and China reached US$53.7 billion in the first nine months of this year, up 12.49 per cent from the same period of last year. Exports to China were US$21.3 billion, up 27.7 per cent from the same period last year.
“With the tax reduction becoming effective on January 1, 2018, the challenge is for Thai exporters to expand their exports to China, especially with agricultural products such as rubber, rice, wood, fruit, and electronic products,” she said.
