Drive for mega-projects

Drive for mega-projects

THE government will push forward with clearing the way for a start on some infrastructure mega-projects before the end of this year, Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said yesterday.

The first in the frame is the first section of the Sino-Thai high speed rail project linking Bangkok with Nong Khai. The initial section is the Bangkok-Nakorn Ratchasima route.
The Transport Ministry will propose to the Cabinet consideration on this first phase on December 19 before a construction ceremony set down for December 21.
The ceremony will be presided over by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The premier has instructed state agencies to rush to finish their studies on the construction details for the subsequent phases in order to speed up the whole project development.
The second project is the first phase of the proposed dual-track rail projects, including the Hua Hin-Prachuab Kirikan route, the Nakon Pathom-Hua Hin route, the Prachuab Kirikan-Chumpon route, the Mabkraboa-Jira junction, and the Lopburi-Paknampo line. The Transport Ministry will table before the Cabinet on December 19 the results of the auctions.
