The establishment of a foreign labour union is not allowed in Thailand, as requested by the United States Trade Representative (USTR), given the disagreements heard in a public hearing, according to Thai commerce permanent-secretary Boonyarit Kalayanamit.

After a discussion with USTR representative Lewis Karesh, Boonyarit said that Thailand may amend its labour law to be in compliance US law and open the market for pork imports from the United States.
