True rolls out new app to woo taxi driver and bikers
True has launched its True Ryde App to support taxi drivers and bikers in order to improve the service levels. The company expects 30,000 downloads within the next three months.
Pakpong Pattanamas, True Corporation Plc’s deputy director for Mobile Business, said the True Ryde application’s vision was to elevate the service level of taxis and motorcycle taxis as part of Smart Transportation 4.0 as well as a cashless society regime.
The True Ryde app allows passengers to pay drivers through the TrueMoney Wallet platform, which currently has more than 10 million active users. True Ryde members can accumulate TruePoints, which can be used to exchange for various privileges under the TrueYou privilege programme and to purchase merchandise at 7-Eleven shops nationwide.
Licensed drivers and bikers can apply today at all True Shops and receive an incentive of Bt1,000, a waiver of 4G smartphone rental fee, three times higher data capacity and a maximum of 1,000 TruePoints free.
“We are introducing the True Ryde application, a cashless taxi-fare payment platform, which would enable passengers to conveniently pay taxi fares from their TrueMoney Wallet account to the taxis’ True Ryde account by scanning the taxis’ QR codes.
The new application will serve as an easy and highly secured payment tool for about 200,000 taxis and motorcycle taxis across Bangkok and its vicinity and provide them with the opportunity to serve more customers from the 10million regular user base of the TrueMoney Wallet application.
“Both driver and passenger can accumulate TruePoints, exchangeable for items sold at 7-Eleven shops, every time the payment is made via True Ryde,” said Pakapong.
He added that the True Ryde application could be downloaded on both App Store for IOS and Play Store for Android OS, while the app can be made at all True Shops. Registered taxis and motorcycle taxis will receive various privileges, including: Bt1,000 cash transfer to their TrueMoney Wallet (Bt500 after registration and another Bt500 after the first fare payment via True Ryde); free borrowing of various brands of smart phones – both True’s inhouse and international brands plus three times higher data and call services after they open TrueMove H postpaid accounts; a maximum of 1,000 TruePoints all through the campaign (a maximum of 100 TruePoints/payment – limited to 10 payments only, fares starting at Bt35). For each payment of Bt25, 1 TruePoint is earned and free sixmonth personal accident insurance policy from Cigna Insurance with a maximum claim of Bt200,000.
The firm expects that during the promotion campaign from April 5 to June 30, it will have 30,000 downloads from licensed taxi drivers and bikers. The firm in the next step will develop a ridehiring application to support both drivers and customers.
