The total value of local investments, including the establishment of new businesses and expansion of existing operations, reached above Bt60 billion in the first four months of the year, with the biggest amount invested in the manufacturing of petrochemical products and foods, according to an announcement by The Department of Industrial Works yesterday.
Secretary-General Thongchai Chaowalitpichet said total employment increased by about 10 per cent year on year in the first four months, driven by the government’s policy to promote local investments, as well as the easing of procedures for individual investors applying for a factory licence.
“We are in the development stage of the electronic licence project [e-Licence], designed for individual investors planning manufacturing activities in Thailand. The project is in line with the Ministry of Industry’s policy to provide convenience to entrepreneurs in applying [for] a factory licence as well as promoting transparency in the application process,” said Thongchai, adding that the e-License project will be implemented next year and will raise investor confidence.
