Four candidates vie for top job at central bank
There are four candidates for the Bank of Thailand governor’s job, said Rangsan Sriworasart, who is in charge of the team tasked with selecting the central bank’s governor.
Of the four candidates, two are the central bank’s veterans.
The deadline for the applications was on June 16.
The current BOT governor Veerathai Santiprabhob completes his five-year term in September.
Once the committee examines the candidates’ qualifications, they will shortlist one or two candidates during the qualification round. The committee may also decide extending the application period.
The candidates are scheduled to share their visions with the committee later this month, after which the committee will submit at least two names for the Finance Ministry to choose from.
The ministry will then seek Cabinet approval for the appointment of the central bank’s governor. If the original schedule is followed, the entire selection process should be completed by July 2.
