EEC panel tasked with studying three key projects worth over Bt1 trillion

The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee on Monday ordered the EEC management subpanel to study three key projects worth Bt1.18 trillion, EEC Office secretary-general Kanit Sangsubhan said.

The projects are the development of the dry port, overland bridge linking the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea, as well a so-called bridge across Thailand project.

The dry port will see the development of ports worth Bt8 billion each in Chachoengsao, Khon Kaen and Nakhon Ratchasima provinces.

The survey, design and construction will take three years and construction will be completed between 2023 and 2024.

The project linking the Gulf and Andaman Sea will include a double-track railway and motorway. This includes the upgrade of the existing Ranong deep-sea port and construction of a new deep-sea port in Chumphon worth Bt15 billion, as well as the construction of the Prachuap Khiri Khan-Chumphon double-track railway worth Bt12.46 billion.

The Thailand bridge project will link the EEC with the South, which includes the construction of a four-lane road linking Chonburi and Phetchaburi.

This should promote tourism and save transportation costs between the South and Laem Chabang deep-sea port. This road should be ready by 2032.
