BOT preparing more measures to rein in rising baht

The Bank of Thailand (BOT) will launch additional short- and long-term measures to tame the strengthening baht, said Chayawadee Chai-Anant, senior director of the BOT’s Economic and Policy Department on Monday.

She noted that the baht this month was very strong in comparison to October. The central bank is monitoring movements of the baht 24 hours a day, she added.

The BOT recently loosened rules governing Thai investments in foreign securities and the holding of foreign currencies, in a bid to rein in the strengthening currency.

Under the latest measures, Thais are allowed to freely open foreign currency deposit accounts (FCD) and make transactions between FCD accounts.
