Thai Airways and LOT to expand Europe-Asia links with codeshare

Thai Airways and LOT Polish Airlines plan a codeshare from early 2027, expanding connections across Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Thai Airways International and LOT Polish Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a codeshare partnership aimed at expanding travel connections across Europe, Asia and Oceania.

Kittiphong Sansomboon, Chief Commercial Officer of Thai Airways, said on October 14 that the planned codeshare is expected to begin at the start of the 2027 summer schedule, subject to approval from the relevant regulatory authorities.

Passengers can already combine flights operated by the two airlines under their existing interline agreement.

The proposed codeshare would deepen that cooperation by allowing selected flights operated by one airline to be sold under the flight code and number of the other carrier, expanding travel options across their respective networks.

Both Thai Airways and LOT Polish Airlines are members of Star Alliance.

Warsaw-Bangkok route opens new opportunities

Kittiphong said LOT’s Warsaw-Bangkok service provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Thailand and Poland and build on the existing relationship between the two carriers.

“This MoU marks an important step in strengthening connectivity between Thailand and Poland,” he said.

“The launch of LOT’s Warsaw-Bangkok service creates an opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two airlines, while the planned codeshare will make travel between Europe and Asia more convenient and provide passengers with more choices.”

The partnership is intended to expand connections between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region while allowing both airlines to reach new groups of passengers.

It is also expected to support tourism and business travel between Thailand, Poland and other destinations in Europe, Asia and Oceania.

LOT targets wider access across Asia-Pacific

Robert Ludera, Board Member and Chief Commercial Officer of LOT Polish Airlines, said the direct Warsaw-Bangkok route offered passengers easier access to destinations in Thailand and onward connections across Asia, Australia and Oceania.

He described Thai Airways as an important partner in expanding those travel options.

The two airlines plan to combine the strengths of their networks while also encouraging more passengers from Asia to travel to Poland.

Existing interline cooperation to be expanded

Under the current interline agreement, passengers can already combine LOT and Thai Airways flights within a single journey.

The planned codeshare would offer broader booking options and is intended to provide a smoother experience from travel planning and flight connections through to passengers’ final destinations.

As Star Alliance members, eligible passengers can also receive alliance benefits, including mileage accrual on qualifying Thai Airways and LOT flights.

Star Alliance Gold members may receive additional benefits such as lounge access, priority airport services and additional baggage allowances, subject to the applicable conditions.

Thai Airways and LOT Polish Airlines will now work on a formal codeshare agreement and complete the technical and operational preparations required before the planned launch in early 2027.
