A wooden stump with ice made from the surface water of Lake Nukabira in Kamishihoro, Hokkaido, Japan is a phenomenon called "mushroom ice." Lake Nukabira is a reservoir that was completed in 1956 from a dam built for hydroelectric power. A lot of wooden stumps from the trees cut down during construction remain at the bottom of the lake. In the middle of winter, when there is little precipitation, the water level of the lake drops, and the stumps with ice appear everywhere, similar to mushrooms.

Fresh tuna are lined up for the first auction of the year at the Choshi fishing port in Japan on Jan. 4, 2020, when about 36 tons of tuna, swordfish and other fish were landed at the port.
