Three Thai researchers awarded ‘For Women in Science’ fellowships
L’Oréal (Thailand) Ltd, with support from the Thai National Commission for Unesco, has announced that three outstanding Thai female researchers to have been awarded fellowship grants from L’Oréal Thailand’s “For Women in Science” programme.
The programme is in its 14th consecutive year in Thailand, and has granted 58 Thai researchers fellowships to date, while supporting their roles in the sustainable development of the scientific sector here.
This year, the fellowship in the Life Science category was granted to Dr Sudjit Luanpitpong from the Siriraj Centre of Excellence for Stem Cell Research, research division, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, for her study titled “Roles of Reactive Oxygen Species in Lymphoma Stem Cells and Chemotherapeutic Resistance”.
The second fellowship, in the Materials Science category, went to Dr Nadnudda Rodthongkum from the Metallurgy and Materials Science Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University, for her study “Nanocomposite Material Innovation for Medical Diagnosis and Environmental Pollutant Detection”.
The third fellowship, in the Chemistry category, was awarded to Dr Supawadee Namuangruk from the Nanoscale Simulation Laboratory, National Nanotechnology Centre, National Science and Technology Development Agency, for her research titled “3D-molecular Modelling and Advanced Computational Techniques for Design and Development of Nanomaterials in Sustainable Energy and Environmental Applications”.
Each grant was carefully assessed by a jury comprising respectable members from various scientific fields, with selection criteria based on the benefits of the research, accurate research methodologies and peer acceptance.
L’Oréal’s “For Women in Science” fellowship programme was established in 1997 in collaboration between L’Oréal Group and the Secretariat of the National Commission for Unesco. To date, the programme has offered fellowships to more than 2,530 female scientists and researchers from 112 countries around the world.
In Thailand, the programme was set up in 2002. Every year, it offers a Bt250,000 grant to each selected researcher aged between 25 and 40 years across the three categories, Life Science, Materials Science and Chemistry.
