Kasetsart's Faculty of Engineering chooses Nutanix enterprise cloud platform

Kasetsart's Faculty of Engineering chooses Nutanix enterprise cloud platform

Nutanix, a leader in cloud computing, has won the trust of the Faculty of Engineering of Kasetsart University (Bangkhen Campus).

The faculty has chosen the Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform in raising its teaching/research capabilities, Nutnix said in a press statement.
The IT solutions have enabled the faculty to conveniently provide services to its staff more conveniently, the release said.
The platform took just one day to install, the release added.
Since the implementation, physical server space for IT equipment has decreased by 60-70 per cent. On top of this, the procurement budget for IT infrastructure has also plunged by 50-60 per cent. Service-delivery potential has thus increased and responds well to educational reform in pursuit of Thailand 4.0 higher education, the firm said.
Assistant Professor Dr. Kemathat Vibhatavanij, Associate Dean for Information Technology and Corporate Communications, Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University (Bangkhen Campus), said:
“Our faculty believes that ‘the delivery of services’ to our students, lecturers and support staff is of the utmost importance. Seven years ago, our big challenge was how to make all departments or all units trust our IT and network systems. That led us to review what we should do first to win trust and integrate all servers.”

The faculty has 17 buildings. Many servers, including tower cases and rackmount ones are scattered across these buildings. In all, the faculty must serve about 6,000 students, lecturers and support staff. These services require a document system, human-resource-management system, a classroom-reservation system, and more. All these systems, moreover, must come with not just proper licenses but also cyber security.

The faculty surveyed existing IT systems and equipment, drawing up their maps. To improve its IT infrastructure, the faculty then installed four Nutanix nodes as a pilot program to pave the way for the virtualized integration of IT systems and servers for actual usage. In November 2016, the faculty added three Nutanix nodes to its IT infrastructure in support of its project to develop private clouds for lecturers in each department.

Assistant Professor Dr.Kemathat added that: “The Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform can scale up or down easily, so we pay for what we really use. Nutanix technology also protects information security. Thanks to the installation of the Nutanix solutions, we have successfully integrated IT systems and won the trust of all departments. They have now entrusted us with the mission to oversee the network system. We are satisfied with Nutanix solutions, which allow us to create virtual machines fast and to instantly implement any application. We can access information in real-time from anywhere. Problems with blackouts, which have often hit the campus, have reduced. We have chosen Nutanix because it is a leading global solution provider in terms of efficiency, pre-sales and after-sales services.”

Thawipong Anotaisinthawee, Country Manager of Nutanix (Thailand), said: “Today, technology plays a key role in the success of organizations in every field. With easy-to-use technology, work can flow smoothly at a fast speed around the clock from anywhere in the world. It is thus essential that an organization invests in technology because it promises to be a worthwhile investment. Nutanix is extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to collaborate with the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University (Bangkhen Campus) in implementing the technology-based transformation of the educational system. Our solutions facilitate comprehensive management of IT infrastructure. We will continue to work with the faculty in the best interests of the latter”.

Assistant Professor Dr. Kemathat concluded that, “IT usage has been expanding in the educational sector, which now relies increasingly on cloud technology too. So, smart systems are crucial because they facilitate mobility and e-learning. In my opinion, the improved IT system has allowed my faculty’s researchers to conduct their work with greater convenience and flexibility. Their research findings can apply to various Thai industries. This explains why the educational sector can never ignore technology”.
