Italian wines in the spotlight

 Italian wines in the spotlight

The best of Italian wines comes to Bangkok next week as Vaccarini & Sriwarin Marketing hosts the “” event from Monday to Wednesday (May 29-31) at Anantara Siam Bangkok with the support of the Italian embassy and the Italian Trade Agency.

The concept is to bring Italian wine producers, winemakers and quality wines from Italy to explore the emerging markets and help promote the sommelier profession.

The event features an exclusively Italian wine master class & tasting, wine competition and sommelier competition. A grand tasting and an exhibition will also be held in the Grand Ballroom, where buyers, professionals and wine enthusiasts can meet with world-class wine manufacturers.

“I’m excited about the line-up of programmes. I have been promoting wines and sommelier competitions in Malaysia and Vietnam and I hope professionals and wine lovers will learn more about Italian wines, regions and winemakers at the event,” says Giuseppe Vaccarini, president of Associazione della Sommellerie Professionale Italiana (ASPI) and World’s Best Sommelier 1978.

The Italian Sommelier Cup Thailand will be held at the Pimarnman Room where Thailand’s leading sommeliers will compete for the prestigious title and a trip to visit Italian wine regions and producers. The Italy Wine Challenge Southeast Asia competition will be judged by Thailand’s leading sommeliers and sommeliers from neighbouring countries, Southeast Asia’s leading wine professionals, media and celebrities.

Thai partner Joe Sriwarin is expert in the wine business. He was the editor and publisher of Wine Today Magazine for more than 10 years, until the government banned all print media alcohol advertising, and is now a high-profile regional wine business entrepreneur.

“We are lucky because people know us through the Bangkok Grand Wine Tasting, Thailand’s biggest wine professional event. Now, wine is an important part of reflecting the luxury lifestyle. Wine consumption is increasingly popular among Thais. Italian cuisine is very popular too and that helps grow the wine trade,” Joe says.

“Now, Bangkok becomes a wine hub in Southeast Asia with borders connecting to four countries that make wine transporting easier.”

The Discover Wines of Italy Bangkok Exhibition & Grand Tasting will take place on Wednesday (May 31) in the Grand Ballroom at 6.30pm. Tickets are priced at Bt1,600.
