The taste of independence
American Independence Day, usually referred to simply as the Fourth of July, is the most significant national holiday in the history of the United States.
It celebrates the writing of the Declaration of Independence, adopted on July 4, 1776, in which the original 13 colonies of America declared themselves to be states and no longer part of the British Empire, although the Revolutionary War continued for some while afterward.
It’s the day on which Americans the world over celebrate the inheritance of those United States’ founders, whose actions create a free society and a land of opportunity.
