The ambassador made the remarks while presiding over the French National Day reception at the Pullman Bangkok hotel.
“We look forward to next year’s election bringing about an elected parliament,” he said at a press briefing.
Garachon was guarded in his remarks on Thailand’s political situation, only saying that both Thailand and France are going through a “transition period”, as his country’s new president, Emmanuel Macron, assumed office only in May.
France, under former president Francois Hollande, was among Western countries that had condemned the junta for staging the 2014 coup and had called for an immediate return of democracy.
