Strict criterion set for 20 products, including cat breeding

Strict criterion set for 20 products, including cat breeding

The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards is finalising the benchmark for 20 agricultural products that farmers will have to follow, Deputy Agriculture and Cooperative Minister Praphat Phothasuthon said on Tuesday (July 21).

“Of the 20 products, 16 require good agricultural practices, while four are new products that need to follow strict criterion,” he added.
The four items that need to follow standards strictly include:
1. Black mung: Growing, harvesting, storing and transportation must be done in line with practices accepted by international markets.
2. Leucaena legume fodder crop: Thailand currently produces more than 60,000 tonnes of animal feed from Leucaena for domestic consumption and export to Japan and South Korea. New requirements aim to set a standardised ratio of leaf to stem used in the animal feed as well as the species Leucaena fodder can be fed to.
3. Cat breeding for commercial purposes: Standards cover the construction and materials used for animal pens, breeding procedure, health inspection, transportation as well as maintaining a database for cat breeding.
4. Maximum residue limit: Standards on maximum residue limit (MRL) will now cover all agricultural products used as food and animal feed, especially tropical fruits such as pineapple, mangosteen, longan and mango.
