Voyages for the tummy

Seven well-known chefs are all set take Bangkok gourmets on a culinary journey

A NEW AND delicious culinary journey gets underway next month at InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn hotels in Asia, Middle East and Africa.
Featuring signature dishes from a panel of IHG Culinary Ambassadors, the promotion will offer diners the chance to sample exciting and eclectic styles of cuisine from renowned and celebrated chefs.
In Bangkok as elsewhere, a series of seven bespoke three-course menus crafted to feature the creations of each IHG culinary ambassador will be available at InterContinental and Crowne Plaza hotels and resorts from August 17 to November 15.
Within each of the seven set menus, diners will have a choice between two appetisers, two main courses and two desserts.
The journey kicks off with Chinese cuisine from chef Sam Leong from August 17 to 30 then segues into modern Australian from the kitchens of Ross Lusted from August 31 to September 13. Thai cuisine from award-winning chef Ian Kittichai will be on offer from September 14 to 27 followed by Indian menus from Vikas Khanna from September 28 to October 11. Two Michelin starred chef Takagi Kazuo takes up the relay with a Japanese feast from October 12 to 18, Dean Brettschneider serves up modern bakery delights from October 19 to November 1 and Theo Randall brings the journey to an end with Italian specialities.
Meanwhile restaurants at Holiday Inn hotels and resorts will offer set menus by Randall, Leong and Khanna.
Lusted’s signature offering is grilled wagyu loin cooked medium-rare and served with a sticky veal sauce that is savoury and smooth. Another beef dish is Randall’s carpaccio. Lightly seasoned with aged balsamic vinegar, parmesan and pine nuts, the dish is sensually addictive and appetite whetting.
Takagi’s stellar dish, Japanese pepper beef, is also a must. The grilled steak is dressed with a special green sauce and topped with fried foie gras. Light yet fulfilling, the dish also goes well with variety of red wines.
Kittichai’s signature grilled lamb with Thai holy basil also makes it to the wish list. The succulent lamb chop is tossed with garlic and chilli, and served with steamed rice.
