How to fulfil little girls' dreams

How to fulfil little girls' dreams

Oh dear, your daughter wants her room refurbished. Time to give the Dulux Colour Design Centre a call

REDECORATING your daughter’s bedroom can be a daunting proposition, especially once she’s grown some picky tastes of her own, but the Dulux Colour Design Centre is ready to help.
Promoting its inspired ideas on YouTube and Facebook, as well as on its own website, Dulux has loads of tips for keeping your little girl happy. This is a job that both mothers and daughters can enjoy together, racking up the quality time while assembling a bedroom they can both be proud of. And it’s easier and more fun than you might think.
First, though, there’s a wide range of wall colours to choose from, which might even seem overwhelming. Just follow these tips and various visual cues and you can achieve a trendy or a classic result. There are four simple tricks – add bold colours, stay away from “themes”, give your young lady a say, and aim to create a hangout space for her and her friends.
Pink is a “girlie girl” colour, suitable for the realm of princesses, but the room doesn’t have to resemble the inside of cotton candy. You should break away from “traditional girl colours” with more berry-tone pinks and reds that still add softness when used in conjunction with lime and orange.
More “girl appeal” comes in the form of floral prints, more graphic than flowery in keeping with modern design.
Purple, like pink, is a classic girl’s colour and can take a room’s look in many directions depending on the shades you use. For a romantic look, join purple with soft, billowy white fabrics and white furniture.
Rather than trying out patterns on the walls, pick something fun that will make your little girl jump for joy, like patterned dots, a great way to give a blank wall some personality.
Your daughter also needs bold window panels with flower patterns that include lots of sweet colours, a good-size bed with a custom-designed headboard to fill a large area between the closet and dresser. Now, consider built-in bookcases and window seats and other forms of storage space.
Then she can add posters of her favourite pop stars or her first celebrity crush – with your consent of course!
There are no set rules to painting your princess’ room as long as you talk out the ideas with her first and then make sure you enjoy decorating the room together.
