Suthep and Democrat Party's record on reform is shameful

Re: "We need balanced opinions, not rants", Letters, August 3.

Keith Barlow is correct to say that JC Wilcox has a distorted view of the “greatness” of that buffoon Suthep Thaugsuban. One is forced to wonder why, if Suthep and his followers are such great reformers, they did nothing about reform during the decades the Democrats were in power. Are we to believe that they suddenly discovered the need for reform just as they were looking for an excuse to overthrow the government because there was no other way for the Democrats to regain power?
During the time that Suthep attempted to “shut down” Bangkok, did he offer any constructive suggestions for reform, other than saying provincial governors should be elected?
Were the calls for anyone found guilty of lese majeste to be exterminated, which came from Suthep’s ultra-royalist supporters, an example of how Suthep planned to “reform” Thailand?
All the governments in Thailand have been disgusting. But as Barlow noted, at least Thaksin Shinawatra did something for the poor. What did Suthep do for them?
