Better for mum, best for baby

Better for mum, best for baby

A new boutique on Sukhumvit Soi 49 offers everything for the nursing mother

TWO YEARS ago, fed up with the choice of clothing that allowed her to breastfeed her new son while still looking stylish, writer Ploy Mallikamas decided to take matters in hand.
The author of best-selling travel pocketbooks “Tokyo Momiji” “The Story of Berlin”, “Urbanista to Town” and “Slow Travel”, she put her head together with two designer friends then opened an online boutique dedicated to minimal-style dresses, blouses, pants, jumpsuits and skirts made from top-quality cotton, stretch fabric and dyed linen.
The cyber business thrived and soon Ploy was looking for some retail space to rent. The result is My Happy Job boutique on Soi Sukhumvit 49.
The boutique is in itself a gift to all new mothers as Thailand prepares to celebrate National Mother’s Day, offering a great selection of smart yet comfortable nursing wear.
The three partners recently spread their wings and took their ways to the Playtime Paris trade fair, where their new collection was selected as one of five coming trends for this season.
“When my son was born I started to become interested in the campaign that lobbied for nursing rooms to be made available at public venues like shopping malls and restaurants. I also quickly got fed up with my maternity dresses, which were not only unfashionable but also completely unsuited to breastfeeding. Our designs solve both these problems,” Ploy says.
Impeccably cut and sewn, My Happy Job offers a full range of clothes tailored to the lifestyle of urban mums and made from fabrics guaranteed not to irritate sensitive skin.
There’s plenty of choice for the working woman who needs formal wear for the office, with the dresses and tops adorned with ornamental fringes that maintain modesty when a mum breastfeeds her infant.
They are designed to be easy |to unfasten too with zips that are hidden next to seams and nipple-protecting pads stitched in. Casual wear is available in comfortable stretch-fabric dresses, which are decorated with a large fringe that is easy to open up.
Perfect to match with skirts and trousers, the tops feature stripes, plaids, patchwork and dots and come in attractive pastels such as beige, blue, red, grey, purple, pink, orose and yellow. All designs are available in small, medium and large sizes, the latter fitting a 42-inch bust.
“We are always trying new materials and recently launched a line made from hand-woven textiles from Ubon Ratchathani which is famous for natural dye techniques,” Ploy says
“I will also be offering a line of skincare products that are designed by a skin hospital and guaranteed hypo-allergic.”
For now, Ploy offers herbal shampoo and conditioner under the brand Zenze. Available in seven |formulas, they use extract of eclipta erecta and dainty spure to thicken the hair, soap nut to eliminate dandruff, softening aloe vera and detoxifying som poi, as well as bergamot for |oily hair.
